Dr. Brashers has extensive experience developing, implementing and assessing IPE activities across the learning continuum. She has published numerous articles on IPE and has provided consultation and presentations nationally to health professions schools, hospitals, and the Institute of Medicine. She is the founding co-Director of the UVA Center for ASPIRE which has received over $2 million in grant support for innovative IPE research projects. She has received numerous awards for her teaching and commitment to interprofessional education and practice.

John Owen

Dr. Owen serves as Associate Director, Center for Academic Strategic Partnerships for Interprofessional Research and Education (ASPIRE).  In this role, he provides oversight of educational and research IPE projects to ensure quality; supports the identification, promotion, implementation and evaluation of interprofessional course work and experiences; develops, provides, and evaluates faculty development with the co-Directors specific to interprofessional education; and provides consultation to potential and existing IPE project teams in the development and implementation of IPE research and grants.  Dr. Owen has been published and has presented on a wide range of medical education subjects with an emphasis in Interprofessional Education and Interprofessional Practice. He earned his Doctorate Degree in Education, and Masters Degrees in Epidemiology, Educational Administration, and English Education, all from the University of Virginia

Julie Haizlip

Dr. Haizlip has had an interest in IPE since her undergraduate training in Pharmacy.  She has created and implemented interprofessional activities aimed at enhancing patient safety and improving team based care for children with chronic progressive illness.  Dr. Haizlip has worked organizationally to enhance team functioning both as Co-Director of the Center for ASPIRE and as faculty of the UVA Center for Appreciative Practice.  She was awarded the ABIM Foundation Professionalism Article Prize for her article on the Negativity Bias and Culture Change in Academic Medcine.  She recently completed a Master of Applied Positive Psychology where she focused on ways to promote collaborative relationships in healthcare teams for the benefit of both practitioners and patients.
